Dr Drew Yates is a consultant rheumatologist, practicing in Brisbane, Queensland who completed a Bachelor of Engineering with honours in 2008, in addition to a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery with honours in 2012 at the University of Queensland. He completed his basic physician training at The Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and completed Advanced Training in Rheumatology at The Townsville Hospital, The Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and as chief medical registrar at the Mater Hospital, South Brisbane in 2019.
Dr Yates has presented and published research in lupus nephritis and is currently a senior lecturer with the University of Queensland. He is a member of the Australian Rheumatology Association and was the director of clinical training for Rheumatology in Queensland from 2023-2024.
In addition to Brisbane Rheumatology, Dr Yates is currently appointed as a staff specialist at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and has previously worked as a consultant rheumatologist at Sunshine Coast University, The Prince Charles and Redcliffe hospitals.
Dr Yates has a particular interest in inflammatory eye disease, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), vasculitis and polymyalgia rheumatica.
In his spare time, Dr Yates enjoys hiking, skiing, and recreational aviation.
