She undertook advanced training in rheumatology at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Caboolture Hospital and Townsville University Hospital, which allowed her to gain valuable experience in autoimmune and inflammatory arthritis, connective tissue disorders and systemic lupus erythematosus. She has a broad interest in all rheumatological conditions, as well as joint injections and aims to provide a collaborative therapeutic approach to patients under her care.
Dr Mao has a keen interest in medical education and remains an Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland. She has been involved in both writing and updating the rheumatology curriculum. She is a member of the Australian Rheumatology Association.
Dr Mao is fluent in both English and Mandarin.
