Dr Lisa Cummins has worked as a Consultant Rheumatologist since 2015. She completed her medical degree at James Cook University and Physician Training at various sites throughout Queensland.
She is passionate about providing safe, effective and timely patient care. She has experience in managing all aspects of Rheumatic Disease, including Young Adults with rheumatic disease and managing rheumatic diseases in pregnancy. She is a Senior Staff Specialist Rheumatologist and Clinical Director of Rheumatology at Mater Hospital Brisbane. She was voted a Finalist in the ‘Doctor Clinical Excellence’ category at the Mater People Awards 2025.
Dr Cummins is also passionate about training and education of junior doctors. She has past experience as a Director of Physician Education and Australian Rheumatology Association (ARA) Qld Director of Clinical Training. She has been an Examiner for the RACP Divisional Clinical Examination since 2017.
Dr Cummins is current Vice President of ARA Qld and co-convenor of the ARA’s National Annual Scientific Meeting 2026. Her past research topics have included Health-related Quality of Life in Ankylosing Spondylitis and retention of DMARD therapy in Rheumatoid Arthritis.
Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two children.

- Completed Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at JCU 2005 (Hons Class I, University Medal)
- Completed Rheumatology Advanced Training at Qld hospitals including Townsville University Hospital, The Princess Alexandra Hospital, The Royal Brisbane Hospital and Greenslopes Hospital.
